A Guide To The Nokia N8

Nokia has now released their new smartphone, the N8, which is sized just like other phones in its class, at a weight of 1335 grams and a size of 114 x 59 x 13mm. You can talk for more than 6 hours straight on the 3G network with its battery, and it will stand up to 7 hours of video playback and 50 hours of music playback, as well as 16 straight days of standby time. There are a variety of colors in which you can get it, from dark gray to orange and everything in between.

The operating system powering the N8 is the new Symbian^3. Most smartphones already use the Symbian OS, but the Symbian^3 is the newest in the line. The N8 is the first phone to run it. A couple of other great features are the touchscreen, which supports flick scrolling and pinch-to-zoom, and the customizable homescreens, which allow convenient access to your favorite apps and widgets.

The user interface is speedy thanks to the 3D and 2D graphics architecture that uses the N8′s hardware acceleration to its fullest. The Symbian^3 OS also allows multiple tasks to be running at once with no slow down thanks to the improved memory management system.

The N8 can also be used a a portable entertainment center, able to produce HD quality video and Dolby Surround Sound when you connect the phone to a home theater system. You can also connect to Web TV with the N8, allowing access to such channels as CNN, Paramount, E! and National Geographic through your phone. You also have access to a number of other content through Nokia’s Ovi Store.

No matter what services are important to you, it will know how best to connect to them. You can download apps from the Ovi Store, watch TV with the Web TV feature, and log onto social networking sites that you find important to you. You can even take fantastic pictures and video with the help of the 12 megapixel camera, which features a Xenon flash, a better sensor than most digital cameras have, and Carl Zeiss optics, and you can even take HD quality video and edit them from the phone itself.

With social networking so popular these days the Nokia N8 has been built with it in mind. You can update your status, tweets, share pictures locations and view live feeds on Twitter and Facebook, all from one application you can access from the homescreen. You can synchronize your calendars on your phone with Facebook and you get free global Ovi Maps, with GPS navigation. The maps and GPS will cover you in over 70 countries around the world.
