With the many options available today, finding the best ebook reader that’s just right for you can be hard. When you talk of electronic book readers, there are a lot to choose from, coming in all sizes, colors, and features. As with any purchase you make, it’s important to do ample research beforehand and then make a decision based on what you’ve found out. But first, you also have to know what exactly you want from an ebook reader. It’s easy to get caught up in the rave reviews and great features of a certain e-reader, but the question to ask really is – is it what you need?

To make it easier for you to come up with your shortlist, you first have to set a budget. Note that even the most affordable ebook readers can set you back by more than 200 dollars. If you have a rather flexible budget, remember that there are ebook readers that are in the 1,000-dollar price range so it’s essential to put a limit on how much you are willing to spend for one. This way, you won’t end up with a device that has the same great features as the others but cost hundreds of dollars more.

One of the major things that you have to consider in finding the best ebook reader, is to decide on where you would be using it for. You may have a big screen option such as the Kindle DX and you may find that it may draw some favorable attention. However you may also want to get something that is smaller which you can conveniently carry while you are traveling. On the other hand if you are searching for one that you can use while you are resting at your very own home, then you can get a wider screen of your choice. You may also look into a reader which supports various types of files including PDFs.

Another basic feature that you should also look into before you go ahead with your purchase is the battery life of the ebook reader. It would be very frustrating to have your reader quit on you while you’re in the middle of class, or looking over important work-related files. Think about how often you would be using your e-reader so you can have a good gauge as to what battery life you would consider good enough for you. As an example, the Amazon Kindle can last up to 4 days without needing a recharge, and about 2 weeks if the WiFi is turned off. The longer battery life and lower price makes it an appealing choice for those on a budget.

If you are armed with the knowledge of exactly what you need from an ebook reader, you are more confident in looking over the options available. Ebook readers can also be packaged in the most attractive ways, so you could get sidetracked from getting the best ebook reader for you. Other models may have seemingly better add-ons, but may also come with a steeper price. In a nutshell, finding the best ebook reader isn’t just about the great features, but it’s finding the one that has everything you need at the right price.

The Amazon Kindle 2 may be the avid reader’s best buddy nowadays but do you know that it could also be a good partner for students and professionals? This is because this ebook reader device offers an option for students that allow them to quit hauling around their heavy books. Professionals are also starting to realize that the Kindle can be used for reading their work-related documents. But how is the Kindle 2 doing in this role so far? Let’s find out what the pros and cons are in this Kindle 2 Review.

For most people looking to get a digital version of their book, only MS Word or PDF versions are available. This is because most digital documents are set up to be read primarily on desktop computers. PCs and Macs can read these documents very easily or come with programs which can quickly convert files. Unfortunately, the Kindle does not have a native PDF reader and can only take a limited variety of files, most of which you will not find commonly.

Here are some common solutions for this problem. The first option would be to send over your files to Amazon and have them converted. This requires only a very small fee but if we’re talking about dozens of books here, a student may have to spend a lot of time sending files over to Amazon. Plus, with the issue of college costs, any amount spent would have an impact on struggling students. One could also opt to convert the files himself, but again this would require a lot of time that students could put to better use.

But there are some benefits to switching over to the Kindle 2. First and most obvious, is the size. No more sore back from lugging around a backpack weighing as much as you or aching shoulder from hauling around a briefcase full of materials. You may also save money buy switching over. While that sounds absurd considering the price tag of the Kindle, digital copies often cost substantially less that paper versions and over time may save you some change. And considering the digital age that college has entered, many teachers offer their class work in the form of PDF, meaning you will have to view it on a computer anyways. Why not make it your Kindle?

One’s choice to use a Kindle in the academe would all depend on whether the need for it would outweigh the initial cost. Consider also the time that you would have to spend to convert files. If you can spare the time and the few cents needed to have files converted, then swapping your backpack of books for the Kindle 2 would literally get the load off your shoulders. If the file conversion process is too tedious for you, the new Kindle DX, with its native PDF support, could be the solution you’re looking for.

The capability to natively read PDF files is one of the more important and useful features that the Kindles 1 and 2 lacked. In the Amazon Kindle DX, Amazon finally addressed this issue. But what of the 1st and 2nd generations of the Kindle? The problem of course, remains. Load a PDF file into your device and nothing turns up. There are two answers to this. The first involves sending an email to Amazon with the file as an attachment and asking them to convert the PDF into a file readable by the Kindle. The second is a do-it-yourself Kindle PDF conversion.

One thing you should know about the Kindle is that while it does not recognize PDF files, it can read PRC files. So what we’re essentially doing here is to convert the original documents into files that are recognized by the device. If you’re using a PC, the Mobipocket Creator is one of the programs that you can use for the conversion process, while if you’re Mac user, you can use Stanza. The end result is the same.

The conversion process that you would need to go through using the Mobipocket Creator is a relatively simple one. Just open the program, select the import file option, then browse your PC and click on the PDF file you wish to have converted. Then select the HTML created and click on the build button. Depending on the file size, the build process can be done quickly enough, and in the end you get the file format that you need. Errors may come up during the conversion process but you can just ignore these. The file you get may be readable on the Kindle but it’s not a perfect copy and some elements may be lacking like a table of contents.

The conversion is even more straightforward when using Stanza. Just click on the file, select import book from the options, then choose Amazon Kindle.

It’s important that you understand that even with this conversion process, you don’t always get the exact document as you had in the PDF. As mentioned earlier, the table of contents could be missing, although you are given the option to create one. If your have a large table of contents, or you have a way of organizing it, then making the table of contents yourself could be a good option. There could also be sections that don’t look as smooth as they should be, but readable nevertheless. If you get a legible document on your Kindle, your conversion was a success.

Of course, you could always take that option of having your files converted by Amazon, but if you have numerous files, this could cost some, and there’s also the waiting time to consider. If you want to just go ahead and do the conversion yourself, Mobipocket and Stanza are just two of the programs you can use. There may be other conversion tools that you can find if you take the time to find them. The important thing is that you will be able to do your Kindle PDF conversion to make the most of your device.

The Amazon Kindle is known in tech circles as the ebook reader to beat, according to the Amazon Kindle review. With its closest competition coming out with two new e-readers, the Sony PRS-300 and the Sony PRS-600, will the Kindle be finally given a run for its money? Not all details are known of these two new devices to hit the ebook reading industry, but there’s enough data released to keep us intrigued and waiting. First, Sony itself has verified that it is indeed about to release two new e-readers. Then, some actual features were leaked to the public – features that could get Amazon a bit worried.

The first thing most people are going to notice is the price. The Kindle 2, the older model now that the Kindle DX is out, still runs for about 260 dollars. However, the brand new Sony PRS-600 is purported to be releasing at about that same price. The aggressive pricing clearly shows that Sony is looking to get in on people who still aren’t will to shell out almost 500 dollars for a Kindle DX, but who want something newer than the Kindle 2. Sony also states that they will be matching the 9.99 dollars price for new releases and best sellers, further proof of their willingness to compete with Amazon. For the money Sony is asking, they certainly appear to be offering something quite significant.

Some parts of the PRS 600 manual have been prematurely leaked, providing a clearer idea of what it can offer. One obvious feature that sets it apart from most is the touchscreen. While this is not the first touchscreen e-reader, others are priced more expensively like that of the 1,000-dollar FLEPia. The advantage of the touchscreen reader is that the space supposedly for buttons and keyboard can now be used to have a larger screen. Or it can make the gadget smaller and lighter. The PRS 600 has a 6″ screen but is only 0.4″ thick and weighs only 10 ounces.

You would probably also be excited to check out if this device indeed has a flexible screen. While Sony hasn’t confirmed on this feature yet but the manual itself states that there are flexible features of the device. This has then lead to various speculations that the device consists of an unbreakable and yet a bendable screen, a great breakthough in technology.

Speculation is all well and good, but it is the hard facts that have people intrigued about the Sony PRS-300 and Sony PRS-600. The Sony PRS-600 comes with freehand writing via a stylus, a built-in dictionary, a library software suite that supports both Mac and PC, 380mb of storage with possibility for expansion and a battery life up to 7,500 pages. That’s all very extraordinary given the modest price. While the details are still not entirely fleshed out by Sony, it is clear that Amazon is going to have some competition. With the Sony PRS-600 and it’s little brother the PRS-300 getting ready to hit the market, potential buyers might just be holding out a little longer on that Kindle 2 they’ve been watching.

Almost everything in today’s world has gone digital and with the invention of the ebook reader, so has reading. It’s impossible to have all of your favorite books with you everywhere you go if you’re still using paper books. But with an electronic book reader you can bring hundreds, even thousands, of books with you. No matter where you are or how often you travel, you will always have a book to read. The problem most people face is deciding which reader is right for them. The market is still fairly small, but when you are considering spending hundreds of dollars you want to make sure you get the one that is going to be just right for you.

Ebook reading doesn’t come cheap. Even the most inexpensive of the portable ebook readers breach the 200-dollar mark. At this price, you can find most of what you need from an e-reader. Still, there are things worth considering when choosing an ebook reader. If you do a lot of traveling, buy something travel-worthy. Decent battery life plus sleeker looks are what you get from higher-end models usually priced about 500 dollars. If you have this much to splurge, try checking out the just- released Kindle DX which is the largest and most technologically advanced ebook reader to date. If you want the swankiest, shell out more than 1,000 dollars for the Flepia.

Of course you don’t want to waste your money on something that you really don’t need, right? Generally, what you should look into is a device that has long lasting battery life to let you make use of it for a longer period. You could also look for one that has a screen that won’t wear out your eyes. You don’t necessarily have to purchase one which is expensive. They may have more features but what’s important is finding one that’s just right for you.

Another important feature to check out is the file compatibility. This is a basic concern and yet many ebook owners overlook this. For instance, if you see yourself frequently needing to browse PDF files, make sure that your gadget supports PDF files as some don’t. Since different ebook devices support different file formats, your access to ebooks could be limited. As for content availability, Sony has more than 100,000 ebooks in its library, while Amazon has around 250,000 ebooks available.

It’s really not that much of a challenge to find the best ebook reader for you. All you have to do is to get more information about the device before purchasing it. If you think getting a device with a higher price would do you best, think twice. If you are looking for a nice touch screen feature you may opt to purchase a Flepia although the thousand-dollar price tag may be too steep just for that feature alone. The decision is yours. You’ll just have to make the right choice. By not focusing on the features but the use, you’ll definitely find one that can meet your expectations and your budget.

With the introduction of the electronic book reader and the advanced technology it brings, many wonder if this could perhaps be the end of the written word as we know it. On the contrary however, ebook readers have taken the reading experience into a whole new level, and in the case of students for instance, the use of ebook reading devices can make students’ lives easier. If they have all their books conveniently stored as ebooks in their devices, they need not lug around heavy books all the time and can instead, focus on the business of learning. College students especially, can have the most benefit from using handheld ebook readers.

One of the main concerns you’ll have here has to do with one’s health condition. Ever since, students have already been under the burden of carrying heavy books since junior high until they reach college and this can eventually wear them out. Some children may even develop back pains and other issues in the long run. This is one reason why there are some backpack manufacturers who have tried designing their products to be more comfortable for carrying to help lessen strain at the lower back area. If it were only possible for kids to have their books stored on a lighter device such as an ereader, this would have solved their back strain issues without having to worry about carrying all those heavy books throughout the day.

If one is thinking of being more practical in life, then it is essential to have these electronic book readers handy. Students are aware of the possibility of having to fall in line to buy books when school days are about to start. Of course nobody would like to end up getting a book which has incomplete pages or one which has scribbled pages from its previous owner. This also means that you would have to sell them back again when the semester ends, which entails for you to fall in line again. If students are capable of wirelessly downloading the books they need for a particular semester in just a few minutes by simply going to one website, this would definitely be more convenient.

Another reason why ebook readers should be encouraged by universities for its students is the cost factor. Some of you may find this argument ridiculous but hear me out first. Yes, an e-reader that’s loaded with all the features that a student would need may set you back a good 400 to 500 dollars, but that’s about the same amount that a student would be spending on books. Using ebook reading devices may cost more upfront, but the ebook version of textbooks would cost much less than the printed ones, giving you bigger savings in the long run.

Students already have a lot of things to think about and falling in line just to buy their books just adds to their time lost. With the help of technology, one can make use of an electronic device without having to carry all those heavy books all the time. Students don’t have to stress themselves out wondering if they got the right book and at the same time, have more energy to study. Having ebooks handy would also benefit the teachers in a way that they do not have to worry if their student have the reading materials they need as these ebooks are available in countless digital copies. With all of these benefits, having ebook readers implemented as a must-have for campuses is something to look into.

Aside from being a innovative gadget that is taking reading to unexplored levels, the Amazon Kindle DX now has another important role: that of a savior to the ailing newspaper industry. Subscription plunged to such low levels that even the most respected papers have had to fold-up or make huge cuts in the budget, laying off people, removing other sections of the paper, or even coming out less frequently. Some of the bigger organizations such as the New York Times now publish online versions of the printed paper, and most of them have also taken to having digital versions that can be read through the Kindle.

Some claim that this is a change that the newspaper industry can take advantage of. We have been getting our news from the published printed paper since first and last edition of Publick Occurrences Both Foreign and Domestick in 1690. Now, with the advent of technology, the printed paper is trying to stay with the new trends. This a development that is unstoppable and the papers would find it difficult to say no. To go with the trends would be a good thing to do and would help them acquire more readers. In doing this, papers might just help in getting good numbers again when it comes to subscriptions.

Still, some may say that it would be a mistake for newspapers to depend on the Amazon Kindle DX. Many newspapers have already made steps to get published online, read free by anyone who visits their site, and earn through online advertisements. What they are doing now is trying to earn additional revenue by offering subscription for the Kindle editions of the paper — the same content people can read free online. There are analysts who think that this is a waste of resources which could only serve to exacerbate the industry’s situation. Whether we admit it or not, newspapers may not be that needed anymore as more and more trained reporters are being replaced by bloggers, who do blogging, a form of pseudo-journalism.

The more newspapers switch to having their news published through the Kindle DX, the more interest will be built for this type of medium. Since Kindle is becoming more of a fad nowadays that allows people to bring thousands of books with them, according to most Amazon Kindle DX reviews, offering online updates for best-selling subscriptions would then be an easier way instead of reading it from paper. This time around you don’t have to worry about your paper getting ruined by the weather after it has been delivered to you. You also need not bother waiting for your PC to slowly boot up just so you can get hold of the news. All you have to do is to turn your Kindle on and the information would be ready for you to read.

There really is no way to tell if the Amazon Kindle DX will save the newspaper industry, but right now it may be the only chance they have.

If you check out the vast number of Amazon Amazon Kindle DX Review available on the internet, you will find a mixed bag. While the DX has received mostly positive reviews, it is impossible to please everyone and many people have some complaints. Many problems people have with the DX are personal issues such as the 12 hour battery not being enough to keep up with their travel- intensive job. But for the vast majority of people, 12 hours is plenty time to read for one day. In order to decide if the Kindle DX is the right handheld ebook reader for you, you have to break down the pros and cons.

It is easy to go over the pros of the DX. While it would take too much time to go over everything the Kindle has to offer, you can be sure that it lives up to its promises. Everything the Kindle DX says it does, it does very well. The enormous screen is plenty big enough and the e-ink feature makes it easy to read. Even the most avid readers would be hard-pressed to fill the 3,500 book capacity. The rotating screen is excellent for reading your newspaper subscriptions or even for kid’s books with lots of big pictures. The ergonomic design is an improvement as well, making the DX easier to handle.

But there are still issues, many of which aren’t exactly the fault of the device. The biggest complaint that many users have is the DRM (digital rights management) that Amazon has chosen to use. DRM is widely considered an outdated practice of material protection and unfortunately limits the kinds of documents you can use on your Kindle DX. You are forced to buy from Amazon and you may find that many of your reader files will not work.

Another major concern with the DX is its lack of organizational capability, meaning it’s difficult to find what goes where if you have a large library. The last and perhaps one of the biggest problems with the DX is its price tag that many interested individuals simply find too steep.

There is a lot to consider when you look at the DX and wonder if it is worth it. The price buys you quite a lot and will keep even the most avid reader happy most of the time. But it isn’t perfect. There are some flaws that will likely not affect many people, but the people who are affected may be put off quite a bit. For the vast majority, the DX is a reader that will do everything they need and then some. Though it may not completely eliminate the paper book just yet, it is an undeniable piece of the future for anyone who loves a good book.

If you’re a big fan of the Kindle and own either of the first and second generation models of it, you’re probably wondering how the just-released Kindle DX differs from what you have now. Another question that’s foremost in people’s minds especially those looking to get a DX is whether the 489-dollar price tag is worth it. Spending almost 500 dollars for a gadget is no simple matter so this Kindle DX Review will look at what this latest version has to offer.

The older of the two models, the Kindle 2, offers a few less features and is a bit smaller, but also comes with a smaller price tag. The Kindle 2 is 8″ x 5.3″ x 0.36″ and has a 6″ diagonal screen. It weighs just over half a pound at 10.2 ounces and is great as a highly portable ebook reader. The Kindle 2 comes with 2 GB of memory, which can hold around 1,500 books, more than enough to fit most people’s libraries inside. At around 259 dollars it is significantly cheaper than the new DX as well.

The new Kindle DX comes onto the market with a bigger is better attitude. The unit itself is 10.4″ x 7.2″ x 0.38″, but it boasts a huge 9.7″ screen with an auto-rotating feature. This means you can switch between landscape and portrait just by turning the device, making it great for newspapers or picture-heavy kid’s books. But this size means it weighs more as well. Nearly twice as much at a hefty 18.9 ounces.

You will get twice the memory at 4 GB, able to store a virtual library at over 3,500 books. You also get the ability to view PDF files, which is a huge bonus bearing in mind that the Kindle 2 requires a small fee to convert them for you to read. Of course, the price tag matches these features at 489 dollars, making it a luxury that, for the most part, only avid readers will consider.

Don’t think that just because the Kindle DX is newer and sports bigger numbers that it is the only one you should consider. The Kindle 2 has size on its side. While the DX might be great for reading at home, the Kindle 2 is far more portable. It will also save you a big chunk of change. If you are willing to pay for the extra size and features, the DX is a great piece of technology. But the Kindle 2 still has more than enough to offer most people. If you are just looking for a way to replace ratty old books or cut down on how many textbooks you’re hauling around, the Kindle 2 has a lot to offer. Whichever one you decide is right for you, you’re getting a device that will give you the ultimate reading pleasure.
